Chatham Health and Rehabilitation
Chatham, VA
Construction is well underway on Smith/Packett's new skilled nursing home in Chatham, Virginia. When completed, the Chatham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center will be a single-story skilled nursing home offering skilled, rehabilitative, and long term care nursing services at one of the most accessible and highly visible sites in the Town of Chatham, Virginia. The facility will have a state-of-the-art physical therapy gym providing physical, occupational and speech therapy and offer a complement of private, shared private and semi-private accommodations. Ample common areas including living rooms, activity space and dining rooms are provided throughout the building. It has a total licensed capacity of 85 beds and a total of 39,716 square feet.
Chatham is located on Route 29 between the cities of Lynchburg and Danville, Virginia. The facility will be located at the interchange of Main Street and Route 29. Danville Regional Hospital is less than 15 miles away from the site.
The Chatham Health and Rehabilitation Center was made possible through the joint efforts of the community and Smith/Packett. In 2005, a petition was sent to local State Delegate Robert Hurt to sponsor legislation for the Chatham nursing home beds. The community’s concern was the growing elderly population in Chatham and surrounding Pittsylvania County and the lack of local care options. Current Chatham residents had to seek care options up to 45 miles away, creating an emotional and financial hardship on residents, family and friends. Over 2,000 signatures were collected and presented to Virginia’s General Assembly in support of the legislation. The legislation was approved in 2006 and in October 2007, Smith/Packett was awarded a 60 bed Certificate of Public Need (“COPN”) to build a nursing home in Chatham. In January 2008, Smith/Packett filed an application to relocate an additional 25 beds to the Facility. And approval was received June 30, 2008.
The project is expected to be complete in the second quarter of year 2009.
